Cultural Trail – Indianapolis
Posted on June 04, 2010 by Tadd Miller
A lot of great cities use a body of water to enhance the character and vitality of their core. For example, think about Chicago, San Francisco and Miami. Each of them began their development in relationship to the water and each of them continues to benefit greatly in recreational and economic opportunities related to that water. In the landlocked regions of our country we are not blessed with such natural geographic attractions. We have to create our own assets.
This week I walked home from the grocery store on the Indianapolis Cultural Trail along Alabama Street, and what a great addition to the city this is! I later took a run and was able to go past the City Market all the way to IUPUI. I went across through the Chatham Arch Neighborhood, up Mass Ave, and then to the Monon Trail. No more boring road runs! I wonder if people realize how much more accessible this is going to make our downtown neighborhood? Thank you to benefactors like the Gene & Marilyn Glick Foundation and Indy Greenways who helped make this happen!
